Member Highlight- Jessica Blanchard

Jess is an amazing addition to our EXP community! She has been working very hard over the past year on her own personal fitness and achieving some great goals!  She is also 100% positive and fun to be around, her smile is contagious and she is always supportive of everyone around her!  Here’s what we learned about Jess…

Q: What brought you in to CrossFit EXP?
I came to EXP after going to a local globo-gym and felt that I had maximized my potential there.  I was looking to become stronger and I wasn’t really sure where to start.
Q: What was your first impression of CrossFit EXP?
From the moment I first walked in the door at EXP I felt so welcomed and encouraged! I remember that Nick coached my first class, and he was so helpful with explaining all the terminology, and providing modifications for movements that I wasn’t sure about. All of the members were cheering me on and applauded me finishing my first class and it made me feel like I was already part of the team.
Q: Why did you or what made you stay at CF EXP?
I stayed at EXP because of the environment and the gains that I made physically.  The group of people, both coaches and members are friendly and I truly look forward to coming every day.  Before coming to EXP I did have a year or two of workout experience behind me, but the gains I have made here have been amazing.  I have become so much stronger physically, and mentally by challenging myself to do movements I never thought I could.  The coaches have always been helpful in giving tips when I feel like I need pointers, or help to perfect my Olympic lifts.
Q: What’s one accomplishment you’re proud of during your time at CF EXP?
Im proud of myself for participating in my first competition at EXP. We had an internal competition over the summer, and it helped me to get out of my comfort zone.  I never really like being in the spotlight, or having people watch me.  I was able to feel confident enough to perform under pressure, and it was such a great feeling.  I have since done two competitions at other gyms, and hope to continue to participate in more.
Q: What will you do next?
Currently Im working on getting better at Snatches. Coach Pete has been helping to teach me different snatch complexes and movement patterns to perfect this difficult Olympic lift. Im hoping to be able to feel comfortable with this movement so I can continue to improve.
Q: What advice would you give someone who is interested in starting CrossFit?
I would advise someone who is interested in CrossFit to not be afraid to walk through those doors. Although it seems like a daunting environment, it really has become a place that I come to after a hard day at work to release stress. It can be a place like that for you too, all you have to do is walk through the door. Everyone will be here to help you and give you advice and encouragement every step of the way.
