Q: What brought you in to CrossFit EXP?
My wife and I were always trying different forms of exercise to get into shape. We came across an add for an EXP boot camp offer and decided to give it a shot.  I instantly fell in love with the workouts and intensity.
Q: What was your first impression of CrossFit EXP?
It was honestly a little intimidating at first, but once we tried it and learned that all movements could be modified to your abilities, that intimidating feeling disappeared and was filled with a feeling of confidence and determination.
Q: Why did you or what made you stay at CF EXP?
The relationships I have developed with the knowledgeable coaches/staff, the varied programming and friendly supportive community are all reasons I have remained at CF EXP.
Originally the plan was to learn new workouts that I could bring back to my regular gym. I ended up really liking the varied workouts and group class environment. It meant not having any guess work when it came time to work out. It also meant always having a coach watching to ensure proper form with movements and to hold you accountable so that you don’t slack on movements,  weights and intensity.
Being an Obstacle Course Racing Athlete, I also figured some functional fitness training could help me successfully conquer the more difficult strength based obstacles.
Q: What is one accomplishment you are proud of during your time at CF EXP?
Since being at CF EXP I have many accomplishments to be proud of. Some of these accomplishments include mastering double-unders, doing my first bar muscle up, doing my first ring muscle up, etc… I have gained a great deal of strength and endurance which has helped me with my Obstacle Course Racing.
Two of my biggest accomplishments to date have been competing in the OCR World Championships and completing the Killington Spartan UltraBeast. At the World Championships I was able to complete a mandatory obstacle completion course without failing an obstacle and more recently I completed the Killington Spartan UltraBeast, which is one of, if not the hardest, obstacle course race around. More racers DNF than cross the finish line. I am proud to have earned the title of Spartan UltraBeast finisher!
CF EXP definitely played a huge role in me attaining the level of success that I was able to achieve at these races I enjoy so much.
Q: What will you do next?
I plan to continue Obstacle Course Racing as it is a passion of mine. There are also a few other things on the horizon that I plan on doing. One of them is competing in some CF competitions as I recently got a taste and really enjoyed the atmosphere/experience. Another thing I have been pondered is doing some triathlons. The goal is to one day complete an Iron Man.
Q: What advice would you give someone who is interested in starting CrossFit?
If i had to give advice to someone considering starting CF I would steal a phrase from Nike and say “just do it”. It can seem intimidating your first time and you may feel that everyone already knows what they are doing, but the truth is everyone is at a different place on their fitness journey in those classes. The coaches will do their best to teach/model the movements and will modify the workout for you if needed.  In time the coaches will get you where you need to be. You have everything to gain including strength, endurance and confidence with nothing to lose, but fat and a couple inches off the waist!!!
