Q: What brought you in to CrossFit EXP?
I joined Cross fit EXP about 1 week after I turned 49 years old. I had low energy, was overweight, and hadn’t exercised in decades. I decided it was time to make a change, and so I made an initial 6 month commitment to get started and to see what I could do.
Q: What was your first impression of CrossFit EXP?
It was initially surprising that the classes contained beginners like me working out next to more experienced and fit athletes. This stratified class make-up works well, and allows us beginners to learn from, and ‘ride the coat tails’ of the trail blazers.
Q: Why did you or what made you stay at CF EXP?
Having a goal always helps you to achieve. Once I saw that I could get through the workouts, I decided that my new goal was to work hard and see how fit I could get for when I turned 50, which happened yesterday.
Q: What’s one accomplishment you’re proud of during your time at CF EXP?
I’m proud of losing 30 pounds and becoming a much healthier person. My cholesterol and LDL levels, which were initially both abnormally elevated, have become normal. My doctor told me I should write a book on how to lower one’s LDL.
Q: What will you do next?
Now that I’ve turned 50, my new goal is to incorporate exercise and a healthy diet into my new permanent lifestyle.
Q: What advice would you give someone who is interested in starting CrossFit?
When I first joined, there would be times before class that I would be sitting in my car in the parking lot, apprehensive about the workout to come. What I told myself was, just show up and get through it. That would be my advice. First of all, join. Then, just show up and get through it. It’s that simple, if you do that then good things will happen.
