Q: What brought you in to CrossFit EXP?

My wife, Emily and sister, Kacey kept urging me to try Crossfit. Every time they asked, I declined and told them to stop “drinking the Crossfit Kool-Aid.” With my workouts growing stale and to get my wife and sister off my back, I decided to give it a try.

Q: What was your first impression of CrossFit EXP?

I was very nervous joining EXP, I am not someone who does well with change. I stayed in the back during warm-ups and tried to stay out of everyone’s way. Everyone at the 5:15 class could not have been more helpful getting me accustomed to how the class is run. It did not take long before I felt like I belonged.

Q: Why did you or what made you stay at CF EXP?

The EXP community and coaching staff are what keeps me coming back every day. The camaraderie that I have seen is something I haven’t experienced before. This community is full of all ages and fitness levels, and the genuine happiness that people have for other members reaching their fitness goals is contagious. I believe the energy and enthusiasm starts with the coaching staff. I love that the coaching staff gets to know each member on a personal level, taking a real interest in their family, jobs, etc.

Q: What’s one accomplishment you’re proud of during your time at CF EXP?

I don’t have a specific accomplishment, but I would say I am proud of getting to the gym at least 3-4 times a week. With a newborn and 2 year old, it is sometimes difficult to get to the 5:15 class. Making exercise a daily priority is something I am proud of.

Q: What will you do next?

I am looking forward to competing in my first Crossfit competition (Co-Ed Classic) with my wife in February. Aside from that, I am excited to continue working out to set a good example for my sons.

Q: What advice would you give someone who is interested in starting CrossFit?

My advice to someone interested in Crossfit is to step outside your comfort zone and challenge yourself, you will be amazed at how much the coaches and classmates lift you up. My biggest regret is not trying Crossfit sooner, it has improved my life in so many ways. There is a saying that people “come for the workout, but stay for the community” and I cannot emphasize how proud I am to belong to the Crossfit EXP community!
